I am trying to configure CRM Outlook client and am getting a "request failed
with http status 401:unauthorized after inputting the correct intranet and
internet addresses. We have IFD enabled I am able to access/login just fine
via the web client. One thing of note is that I am not on the network
(locally or via VPN) at the time I am trying to configure. Is this perhaps
the issue, or could it be something else?

Helo!!
With IFD configured, you do not need VPN or Locally.

I had a similar problem at my work. When trying to configure the Outlook
client I got the 401 message although it had worked before I changed my
password, and I was able to connect using the web client. The solution that
we found was to login into the web client, and when entering credentials,
check the box that says remember me. After this I could configure my outlook
client. Hope that helps!

Hello

I think you should add the external/internal link to CRM to Trusted
Zones in Internet Explorer.
Then modify security settings in Trusted Zones: User Authentication ->
Logon -> Automatic Login with Username and Password.
So Windows Authentication is enabled for CRM.

If you user IE 7 also look at this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934243/en-us (You are prompted
multiple times for the user name and for the password when you start
Outlook or when you click any of the Microsoft Dynamics CRM folders in
Outlook).
