How do you get an exchange contact file into CRM? Is there a way to pull
directly from MS Exchange 2003?

One way is to export your contacts to .csv and import it in from the tools
menu in CRM.

I figured there was a way to pull directly from Exchange, without having to
import from a csv file. I find the mapping from the csv file and CRM not
matching.

I agree, it is not easy to get the CSV-file right. Did you read this?
http://www.microsoft.com/dynamics/crm/using/configure/outlookimport.mspx

In general, I think MS did a poor job integrating CRM in Outlook.
I finally gave up trying to make a CSV file. I went through the contacts one
by one pressing the Track in CRM button....

Well, the csv file is not the best way to do it, but I have a problem adding
them in indivdual also. Our contacts are in the public folders and we dont
have the option to track in CRM. Unless I added them to my personal contacts
then did the Track in CRM.

Contacts from Exchange public folders

We have the same need... Our contacts are in the public folders and we would
like to have the "track in CRM" button right on those contacts because we
keep all company contacts directly there ... and not in personal "outlook
contact". So is there a way of having that direct link with Exchange public
folders ?

I have used this multiple times over the last few months. Seems there is a
need for a utility to sync contacts between CRM and an exchange public
folder. Adding contacts to an exchange folder is actually easy to do so
this might be a straightforward tool to write. I have not seen anyone do it
yet however.

This answer is a bit delayed, but may still be useful.

I recommend you to consider the Agile Dynamics CRM to Exchange Synchronizer (DXSync). It provides server-side integration between Dynamics CRM and Exchange. Integration includes synchronization of Contacts, Meetings, Calls, Tasks; Archiving emails; special scenarios to replicate and create items like Opportunities and Cases from your email client. This solution works without any client-side plugins. No need for additional configuration of standard mobile or desktop email clients (Outlook, Entourage, Mac Mail, iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry, etc.).

Free trial version is available for download so you can try DXSync before making a decision.

If what you need is one-time synchronization, then trial mode may be enough to get required results.

You can now choose between On-Premise and On-Demand (cloud) server-side synchronization of Dynamics CRM and Exchange.
