CRM 3 rollup 2; sql-2k; w2003, crm, sql and exchange on seperate servers.

35k+ Accounts owned by 1 of 4 users (about 8,500 each) and the 90K contacts
are owned by about 25 or so sales reps (each own about the same number)

Up to 60 users but usually only 20 - 30 at one time, all using Outlook
Desktop client.

Issue: We way to often have to mass update either the sales reps or the
account owners using a workflow. Change all account owned by manager A to
manager B, or all contacts owned by sales rep x to sales rep z. This is done
using an advanced find to id the the suspects and updating 250 at a time.

During this time CRM performance takes a BIG hit. BIG like it freezes for
minutes on end when users are working in it.

Not sure this is fixable but have to ask, is there anything we can do other
than updating at night or on the weekend to prevent the perfoemance hit?

Appreciate all the help on past questions and thanks for thinking about this
one.

If you're running the Enterprise edition you can run the async service
(and therefore workflows) on their own server (http://
msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd979042.aspx ). Of course the
bottleneck could be the SQL writes in which case throwing more at the
SQL Server will help.
