The parent is read only and cannot be edited

I recently upgraded from CRM 3.0 to CRM 4.0.

Now when the users attempt to create Quotations or Invoices ,an error
message is returned when they try to save the document stating that Product
can not be saved as the Parent can not be edited

Does anyone have an idea of what might be going on here???

I have note that is error is related to The parent is read only and cannot
be edited as when try to delete the quotation this error is also returned.

Any ideas at all?

After playing around with CRM for hours ,I unpublished all workflows.It
appears one the non domain -existant CRM users was tied to the work flow that
was responsible for converting invoiced and Quotes from statecode "Draft" to
"Active" hence users couldnt update the quote or invoice details by capturing
products.
